Break Time Quiz Once a Month All (Individual) Librarian issues a quiz to all students based on library books in different themes (story books, biographies, science, history). Treasure Hunt with Clues hidden in Pages of Different Books 3 All (Groups of 4) Students are split into groups of 4 each. Librarian places clues in various books in the library sround a partcular theme (story books, biographies, science, history). Answer to each clue can be found by reading the page in which the clue is found, which will then lead to the next clue). Teams take turns in playing this game. None
Drama Competition around Books and Characters 3 All (Groups of 8) Students form groups of 8. They select a story/history/biography book of their choice and enact the scenes from the book in front of the class. Top team per class is given a prize. Ask the winning group to enact a drama around a specific book
Speed Reading Competition 3 All (Individual) Students read the same book (selected by the librarian) as fast as they can without skipping words and also using clear pronounciation. Top 3 students who can read the longest passages (and yet be clear in their ponounciation) are given prizes. Ask the top 3 students in the school to come and read passages in front of the auditor
“Change the Story” Competition 3 All (Groups of 4) Students form groups of 4. Librarian reads the same book to the whole class. All groups are given 15 minutes to come up with alternative story lines or endings, and narrate their versions of the story. Top 2 groups with best new story lines are given prizes. Ask the winning group to narrate their version of the changed story
Newspaper Reading Competition Once in 2 Weeks All (Groups of 4) Students form groups of 4, and read the newspapers in the library through the week. Every Monday, the librarian will administer a quiz on last week’s main news events – 2 questions in each topic – state news, national news, international news, science & technology, sports, entertainment (12 questions in the quiz). Groups with all 12 answers right will be given prizes. Review newspaper quiz paper set by the librarian and the corrected papers of all students
Read 10 and get a Star Pin N/A All (Groups of 4) Any student who finishes checking out reading 10 books gets a Star Pin to wear on their shirts. Students who collect the maximum number of pins at the end of the year (top 3 in each school) will be given 5 free books to read in the summer (when the libraries are closed). Check the library readership records and see how many pins have been distributed
Book of the Month Club for Stars Once a Month Stars Top 20 students in each school will be selected based on readerships and GROWBY scores. They will asked to form a book of the month club in the school. Each month, a book will be selected and copies made and given to all 20 students (2 weeks prior to the meeting). They will all answer the standard questionnaire and submit them prior to the meeting. They will then attend the book of the month club meeting and participate in its various activities (object association, whose line is it, dumb charades, act it out, draw it out, dress up and change it) as per the description provided in Appendix 2. Review submitted questionnaires and video recordings of select book of the month club meetings. Also review books selected for book of the month club meetings.
Dodecahedron Project for Stars Once a Month Stars (Groups of 4) Students form groups of 4 and create Dodecahedrons for the book that has been chosen as “book of the month”. The best dodecahedrons will be hung from a string from the roof of the library. See Appendix 1 for description of dodecahedrons. Review dodecahedrons hung on the library walls
Class Research Projects using Book Material for Stars Once in 2 Months Stars (Groups of 4) Top 20 students in each school will be selected based on readerships and GROWBY scores. These students will be asked to form groups of 4. They will then work with their teachers and come up with a research project to do pertaining to the class syllabus using materials in the library. They should then conduct the research in the library and prepare the research report and submit to the teacher. Teachers will select the top 3 research reports and give prizes to these groups. Mentoring Program for Challengers Continuous Challengers The bottom 20 students will be selected in each school based on GROWBY scores. The librarian will spend special hours with these students (maybe in groups of 4) once a week to improve their reading ability. GROWBY tests will be conducted every 2 months to assess improvement in their learning levels. If any student improved by more than 2 levels in subsequent GROWBY tests, they will be passed out of the program and new students brought in for mentoring based on GROWBY tests so that at any time during the year, there are 20 students in the mentoring program. Review recorded improvement of GROWBY scores of challengers. Ask select challengers to come and read in front the auditor and ascertain improvement in reading levels. Also talk to teachers to get their opinions on improvement in reading levels.
Dodecahedron Lamp Nights 2 Stars (Groups of 4) The librarian and students from each school with select the best (and most colorful) dodecahedrons from the school year and hang them decoratively using light bulbs (inside the docecahedrons) from a tree in the school compounds. HMs from all schools and the local BEO will be taken on a tour of all 6 schools and the most decorative and “informative” tree will be given a prize (librarian gets the prize). Library Day 1 180 (Top 20 from Each School) “Top 20 students from each school (based on library readerships at year-end) will be invited to the Library Day event. See Appendix 3 for detailed library day schedule.

Students from each school will display the best material created during the school year (or specially created for the event) – (1) Best art work from art program (2) posters on the theme – “I love my library because….” (3) Original stories with cartoons (4) Original biographies with cartoons (5) Poems starting with the line “If I had a Pen” (6) Enact dramas on stories/biographies with costumes (7) Enact famous stories around bographical characters; and (8) Sculptures of a library tree with dodecahedrons hung from the branches.

During the library day event, students will participate in various LIVE library related competitions – (1) Kannda crossword puzzles (2) General knowledge quiz around library books (3) Speed reading competition (4) Library book names memory contest, (5) Lego building blocks contest, (6) Dumb charades and (7) “”Whose line is it”” competition.

Winners of each competition will be given prizes. BEO and DDPI will be asked to attend this event and award the winners. “

Science Club 6 Module 1: Air 2 Top 20 Students based on interest in science The Science Club teacher will demonstate experiments in various modules (Modules 1 to 7) as per the schedule and materials provided by Anubhav Science Foundation (Ms. Geeta Arvind). All students (in groups of 4) will then conduct these experiments in front of the teacher. All students will also have to individually write a 1-2 page project report at the end of each session that discusses what the experiment is about, how they conducted the experiment and what did they learnt from it (theory behind the experiment). All session reports should be maintained in a lab report book given to each student at the beginning of the year. Please note that the outputs of experiments will not be stored for future record.

The teacher will grade each student on 2 components at the end of each module: 50 points (maximum) based on how well the groups conduct the experiments and 50 points (maximum) based on how well the individual students write their reports. All students will also have to individually write a 1-2 page project report at the end of each session that discusses what the experiment is about, how they conducted the experiment and what did they learnt from it (theory behind the experiment). All session reports should be maintained in a lab report book given to each student at the beginning of the year.

Arvind Gupta One Minute Experiments 8 The Science Club teacher will select 8 good experiments from Arvind Gupta’s one minute experiment video series (www.arvindguptatoys.com). Each group (of 4) will have to conduct these experiments (one experiment per session) using materials provided by the teacher. The outputs of these experiments will have to be stored in the library for demonstration (at least the top 2 experiments in each session). The top 2 experiments demonstrated in each session will be given prizes.

All students will also have to individually write a 1-2 page project report at the end of each session that discusses what the experiment is about, how they conducted the experiment and what did they learnt from it (theory behind the experiment). All session reports should be maintained in a lab report book given to each student at the beginning of the year.

Trip to Science Museum in Bangalore 1 24 (Top 4 Science Club Students from each School) Students will be taken to Bangalore to visit the science museum and planetarium in Bangalore. At the end of the trip, each student should write a trip report describing their experiences. The top 2 trip reports will be given prizes. “Trip Video Recording Student Trip Reports”
Preparations for Science Day 2 120 (All 20 Science Students from each School) At the end of the year, the scores of all students in various modules and Arvind Gupta one minute experiments will be tallied up to be given a final average score on a scale of 0 to 100. The top 2 students per school will be given prizes.

All science club students from the 6 schools will participate in a Science Day competition. Students will work in groups of 4. Each group has to build and demonstrate the following: (1) Experiments conducted during the year in the science modules. (2) 2 Arvind Gupta One Minute experiments; (3) One major science project (they can select from a list of projects given to them; and (4) An innovative science project they come up with on their own.

Invitees will attend the Science Day which will be conducted in one school (combined with the Art Day – see below). Judges will be asked to evaluate the experiment demonstrations of each group. Top 3 groups (across all 6 schools) will be given prizes based on how well the students demonstrate the experiments and also explain the science behind each of these experiments.

Art Program 6 Sketching with Pencils 3 Top 20 Students based on art skills The art teacher will teach the students various art techniques (sketching, shading, charcoal painting, landscape painting, still life painting, moving figures painting, portrait painting and self-portrait painting). Each student will produce art work individually in each module. Each students should produce at least 2 art works per module (16 art works total). The art work should be maintained in an art book which can be evaluated by the teacher and audited by the auditor.

The top 2 art works in each module will be given prizes. All art books will be maintained in the library for record keeping. The teacher will assign scores for each student (on 0 to 100) for each module. At the end of the year, the module level scores will be tallied up for each student to arrive at an average score on a scale of 0 to 100. The top 2 students in each school will be given prizes.

Events – Paint Murals in the School 1 The students in each school will be given one classroom to paint murals on (in arrangement with the school principal). The art teacher and students will select a mural theme (e.g. all animals, or all village scenes or a jungle etc.) and paint the walls with a collage of large murals related to the selected theme (we should make sure that each school’s theme is different from the rest). The HMs of all school will be taken on a tour of all 6 schools and will be asked to award the prize to the top murals. Review video recording of mural painting session + painted murals
Events – Paint the Local Village 1 30 (Top 5 Art Students in Each School) The art teacher will work with the village panchayats in which the schools are located and identify a public property (say a temple or a panchayat building or a government office building) in which the students can paint one or two walls with art work. The art teacher and students will select a mural theme (e.g. all animals, or all village scenes or a jungle etc.) and paint the walls with a collage of large murals related to the selected theme (we should make sure that each school’s theme is different from the rest). The panchayat leaders of all schools will be taken on a tour of all 6 schools and will be asked to award the prize to the top murals. Review video recording of event
Events – Encounter with Nature 1 30 (Top 5 Art Students in Each School) The art teacher will take the top 5 students each from all 6 schools on a local trip to a nature spot (lunch will be served). All students will paint the local landscape. Tope the top 3 students amongst (30) will be given prizes. Review video recording of event
Preparations for Art Day 1 120 (20 Art Students from each School) All art students from the 6 schools will participate in an Art Day competition (combined with the Science Day – see above). e students in each school will display their artwork from the school year in a booth. The students will also be made to participate in 3 LIVE competitions (sketching/shaping, landscape painting, still life painting and portrait painting)

Judges will be asked to evaluate the competition art work as well as the art work from the school year. Top 3 art works will be selected for each competition. Top 5 art works will be selected from the art work created during the school year. All selected top art works will be given prizes.

Operational 9 Update Project Monitor for ASHRAYA Management 4 Not Applicable “The project coordinator should submit the updated project monitor data (see Appendix 4 for data template) every 2 months with the following data: GROWBY test scores, library readerships, Docecahedron submissions, library activities completed to date, science club activities completed to date, art program activities completed to date, science club student scores for completed modules, and art program student scores for completed modules.

ASHRAYA management will take this data and create project monitoring status reports for each school. The project coordinator and advisor will present these reports to the school HMs and BEO in a common forum every two months to collect their feedback and show progress made. “
